        How does the PANTONE color system work and why is it important for printing?

        The PANTONE color system (also known as PMS – Pantone Matching System ) is a standardized color system used in design and printing to accurately reproduce specific colors.

        How does Pantone work?

        • Pantone uses pre-mixed inks – not through a combination of CMYK, but through individual formulas.
        • Each color has a unique code (e.g. Pantone 186 C ) that identifies the exact ink, no matter where it is printed.
        • Colors are listed in catalogs (fan palettes) that show how they look on different papers (glossy, matte, etc.).

        Why is the Pantone system important?

        1. Consistency

        • Pantone guarantees that a color will always look the same , no matter where or when it is printed.
        • Ideal for corporate identity – logos, brand colors, etc.

        2. Precision beyond CMYK

        • Pantone allows for brighter, more saturated, and specific colors that CMYK cannot reproduce (e.g., fluorescent, metallic).

        3. Design flexibility

        • Designers use Pantone for accurate communication between agencies, printers and clients, without the risk of errors or interpretation.

        Conclusion:

        Use Pantone when:

        • You are looking for accuracy and repeatability (especially for brand elements);
        • CMYK cannot achieve the desired effect;
        • The design contains a small number of colors .
